Nakamise shopping street

The most popular sight-seeing spot in Asakusa is Nakamise.
When you walk along Nakamise street from Kaminari-mon gate to Senso-ji temple, you can really see old Asakusa. The shopping street has 89 shops (54 on the east side and 35 on the west side). It is 250 meters long. There are so many shops that it seems almost impossible to visit all of them in one day.
In the photo, you can see the signboard of Nakamise Shotengai. The board reads Se-mi-naka in Japanese. Is it a mistake?

No. Although the modern Japanese write from the left to the right as you do in European languages, in the old days they would write from the right to the left like in Arabic.
Being in Asakusa, you feel as if you were in old Japan, as if time had stopped passing decades ago. Asakusa gets Japanese visitors nostalgic.

These days it is not easy to find a place like Nakamise street where you can see Japan's yesterday as it was. The atmosphere here should be kept in a museum forever if it was possible.
You can also buy interesting craft works, sweets of olden days, and even some not-so-decent goods.
Just hang around here, and you will be already feeling it was worth your trip.
