ASAKUSA Underground > Meet Amida, a Buddha who saves everyone.
Why are their teachings so complicated? If it is true, the truth has to be simple and easy to understand. Are they trying to hide something? Is it the reason why they use all those complicated jargons?
This argument can be applied to many subjects, economics, computer technologies, quantum physics, and so forth.
It is the same in Buddhism, especially Zen. Sometimes it is too abstract to grasp. Are they trying to fool us with incomprehensible Koans? They may be telling them to us with their tongue in the cheek.
Look at Amida. When you consult an encyclopaedia, you will see all the foreign names and words that you can't even pronounce.
If one is a good teacher, he can explain the subject plainly and briefly. Don't you agree?
Fortunately, we have Bassui Tokusho (a Japanese Zen monk, 1327~1387).
He said, "Amida is you".
He also said, "Kannon is you, Tao is you, and Buddha is you."
Isn't it simple?
It means, "Don't worry. You have nothing to be afraid of. It's because you are Buddha, omnipresent and omnipotent being. You, yourself is the world."
Then, check this photo. Right in front of Amida's statue, you can see a box, which is asking you "financial contributions".
Doesn't this world look like you?
# You will find the statue of Amida just behind the main pavilion of Kannon if you come from Kaminari-mon gate.
